Our Story

We Are First Free

The reason our name is "First" is because we are the very first Evangelical Free Church here in America! Our roots go back to the revivals in Sweden and Norway, in the 1800's.

Our Swedish forefathers came here to America to be free from the State Church and to express their freedom to worship and teach, and to extend the gospel under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and not human government
WE ARE THE HISTORIC FIRST EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH HERE IN AMERICA. OUR CHURCH BEGAN IN 1884.
WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT THE GOSPEL. (THE WORD "EVANGELICAL" MEANS GOSPEL, WHICH IS GOD'S GOOD NEWS!) WE WANT TO TEACH THE GOSPEL, LIVE THE GOSPEL, AND SHARE THE GOSPEL TO EVERYONE IN BOONE AND AROUND THE WORLD!
WE ARE FREE IN CHRIST FROM RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS, AND FREE TO LIVE OUT THE SCRIPTURES WITH JOY TOWARD THE LORD AND ONE ANOTHER.

Our History

First Free has a rich history beginning with the Swedish Mission Church established at a conference held in Boone in 1884. This church later became the Swedish Evangelical Free Church.

In 1950 the Swedish and Norwegian Evangelical Free Churches united to become the Evangelical Free Church of America. Thus, First Evangelical Free Church of Boone is privileged to be the first Evangelical Free Church in North America.

The most significant factor in the long history of this church is that we have remained faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ in acknowledging the authority of God’s Word, preaching the gospel and building up believers in the faith.
